A dive-bar on the left bank, Le Bar Dix attracts a good number or students and young intellectuals for good sangria but sometimes cramped conversations.

The Cafe de Flore has fallen a long, long way since being the preferred dinner spot for Paris’ literati, but has reemerged as a tourist destination for travellers looking to retrace the footsteps of Truman Capote or Jean Paul Sartre through Paris.  The food is decent, but it’s a great place to bump into foreign tourists (if that’s your thing).

A large, open terrace bar by the beach, Le Café de la Plage tries to combine the relaxed and unpretentious vibe of a sea-port bar with the intense and unbelievably pretentious clientele of the “see and be seen” summer set.  A nice place to have drinks by the beach, and stare at the people coming in while pretending to be looking at the coast.

With a great courtyard for warm weather days, a good, long drinks menu and weird decoration that will always give you something to talk about (picture an antique shop in Marrakech decorated by Andy Warhol), Andy Wahloo is a good place for a relaxed evening of yuppieness.
